OPERATIONS STAFF SPOTLIGHT Shining a light on the staff from Aubrey Independent School District’s third-party providers, Efficient Facilities International (EFI) and Durham School Services. EFI provides AISD custodial services, while Durham is the district’s transportation provider. Tonight, we recognize Dexsi Diaz, Lead Custodian at Brockett Elementary School. Diaz has been serving Aubrey ISD since 2023 and enjoys working at BES, interacting with students and staff. Originally from Venezuela, in her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and cooking. We also acknowledge Sindy Mendez, a school bus driver who has been serving Aubrey ISD since 2020. Mendez enjoys being around the kids and her coworkers. Mrs. Mendez loves to spend time with her family, dancing, and reading.

This training provides parents and community members with tools for speaking with children about potential dangers of social media and how to stay safe online. Topics include social media apps, online grooming, online resources for parents, etc. Join us in the Aubrey High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The address is 510 Spring Hill Rd, Aubrey, TX 76227. We continue to celebrate Black History Month, by recognizing the remarkable achievements and contributions of African Americans. Today, we shine a spotlight on the incredible legacy of Dr. Charles Richard Drew, widely regarded as the father of the blood bank. Dr. Drew was not only a brilliant surgeon and pioneer, but also an exceptional educator. While his invention of the blood bank brought him great recognition, he considered his role as a teacher to be his "greatest and most lasting contribution to medicine." Through his mentorship, he fostered a tradition of excellence, training and inspiring a new generation of African American surgeons who met his exacting standards. In February, the United States celebrates Black History Month, honoring the achievements and history of African Americans. Today, we focus on Alma Thomas, an educator and artist. Mrs. Thomas dedicated over 30 years to teaching middle school and found joy in painting her surroundings in Washington DC. She is renowned for her ability to see abstract beauty in ordinary objects. Alma Woodsey Thomas once said, "Through color, I have sought to concentrate on beauty and happiness, rather than on man's inhumanity to man.

The Aubrey Sports Medicine program has been named a finalist in Children's Health Andrew Institute's TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM FOR 2023-2024! These Chaparrals have dedicated countless hours to learning the ropes of what it takes to be an athletic trainer. The winners of this voting will receive funding for their sports medicine program! Progress is being made on Elementary #4 and Middle School #2. The new elementary is set to open August 2024, while the middle school is scheduled to open August 2025. These campuses are part of the bond that was passed in 2022. It is an exciting time to be a Chaparral!

All Aubrey ISD schools and district buildings will be open as scheduled tomorrow, Jan. 26, 2024. Water has been restored to residents, however the Town of Providence Village has issued a boil water notice. We thank Providence Village officials for their diligence in providing updates. Thank you for your patience. We look forward to seeing our Chaparral family! **Attention Monaco Elementary School Families: Aubrey ISD operations staff has been on campus tonight and will be on hand in the morning to ensure Monaco Elementary School is safe for our students and staff. Bottled water will be available for students and staff and we encourage students to bring their own water bottles. Lunch will be provided as usual and restroom facilities are fully functional. Hand sanitizer will be available for handwashing as well.

Possible Delayed Start Jan. 26, 2024 An early afternoon incident in Providence Village on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024 has left many Aubrey ISD families without water. As a result, there is the potential for a districtwide two-hour delayed school start on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. We are closely monitoring the situation and will make every effort to deliver a decision in a timely manner. We wanted to make you aware so that your family can respond accordingly.

We have been closely monitoring the winter weather that moved into our area early this morning. After meeting with representatives from the National Weather Service, Denton County, and neighboring district leaders, we have determined that all schools and district buildings will be open as scheduled tomorrow, Jan. 16, 2024. Precipitation is not anticipated, and dangerous road conditions are not expected to impact our district. However, temperatures will be very cold in the early morning hours. Please be prepared and dress warmly. If anything changes, we will notify you via our mass communication system.
