At last night's board meeting, Jennie Petrasic, principal of Pete and Myra West Elementary School, presented the board of trustees with spirit wear following their approval of the school's name. West Elementary will become the fourth elementary school in Aubrey ISD.
At the regularly scheduled board of trustees meeting, Brockett Elementary School 4th Grade Students Carly Alexander and Chloe Alexander led the Pledge. Additionally, Aubrey High School's UIL 4A Division 2 Cheer Competition State Runner Up Squad was recognized, along with the Aubrey High School Choir State Solo/Ensemble contest qualifiers.
World Down Syndrome Day falls on March 21 each year to raise awareness and provide education about Down syndrome. The date, March 21, signifies the extra 21st chromosome, which is responsible for Down syndrome. The tradition of wearing mismatched socks on this day serves as a reminder to celebrate differences among individuals. You're invited to "Rock Your Socks" this Thursday. #LotsOfSocks

Lisa Brown, a 3rd grade teacher at Fuller Elementary, and Brenden Fruth, a math teacher at Aubrey High School, have been recognized as CoServ/FC Dallas Teachers of the Month. Steve Smetana, a dedicated substitute teacher at Fuller Elementary School, achieved a major milestone this week by conquering the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Carrying the Chaparral flag with him, he proudly declared, "Inspire, Nurture and Empower," echoing the Aubrey Independent School District's mission statement. Currently in Tanzania, Mr. Smetana shared that he selected the Chaparral flag as a symbol of his love for his Fuller family and everything Aubrey ISD represents. Without a doubt, Mr. Smetana embodies the spirit of an #InspiringChap.
