Aubrey ISD breaks ground on elementary school #4
Many gathered to celebrate the construction of Aubrey Independent School District’s (ISD) fourth elementary school campus. The groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 27, 2023 featured District leaders, construction and architecture company representatives, community members and friends in the midst of shovels, hard hats, heavy construction equipment and lots of dirt.
Aubrey ISD Acting Superintendent Terrie McNabb welcomed all to the momentous occasion, and then asked three members of the Lunk family, all future students of the school under construction, to join her and lead the pledges of allegiance to the United States and Texas flags.
McNabb then introduced the Aubrey ISD Board of Trustees, followed by President Jim Milacek providing greetings on their behalf. Milacek introduced former Superintendent Dr. David Belding whom he praised for his integral involvement with construction projects and for Aubrey ISD’s present day accomplishments.
Dr. Belding then spoke, recognizing the school board, former board members, county and city officials, staff members and the community for its involvement in making elementary school number four possible. He also recognized the design team, whom he has worked closely with for the past year.
Huckabee Architects Principal Luke Powell and Pogue Construction Project Executive Brian Duplechin delivered greetings on behalf of their respective companies.
Elementary school number four, scheduled to open in fall 2024, will have several unique features that emphasize the equestrian and sunset theme of Aubrey’s history as a city. Belding spoke of specific details of what the building’s exterior and interior will look like, and then introduced the campus principal, who is already in place to prepare for opening, Jennie Petrasic.
Principal Petrasic provided comments expressing her excitement and anticipation of the building opening its doors in 2024.
The ceremonial dig followed with board members, District leaders and future students at shovels, flanked by Aubrey High School cheerleaders on both sides. All placed hard hats on their heads and scooped from the mound of dirt in front of them, placing the scooped dirt back onto the pile.
McNabb closed out the event, thanking all who attended. The yet-to-be-named elementary school number four is scheduled to open in August 2024.
