World Down Syndrome Day falls on March 21 each year to raise awareness and provide education about Down syndrome. The date, March 21, signifies the extra 21st chromosome, which is responsible for Down syndrome. The tradition of wearing mismatched socks on this day serves as a reminder to celebrate differences among individuals. You're invited to "Rock Your Socks" this Thursday. #LotsOfSocks

We would like to congratulate the following members of the Lady Chaps Powerlifting Team for competing at the State Meet held in Frisco, TX, on Friday, March 15, 2024. To qualify for state, the lifter must finish in the top two of their weight or lift the state auto qualification total. We have 11 that qualified, more than any other team in the region. Thank you to all who came out to support us during the meet, including Keith Ivy, Dr. Saylor, and Mr. Phipps! Here’s how we did this year: 97 Weight Class: Matiana Walter - 5th place out of 13; Squat 235 (PR), Bench 115, Deadlift 225, Total 575 (PR). We are proud of Matiana for making it to the State Meet for the second year in a row and finishing in medal placement this year! Zoe Fikes - Due to complications during the squat event, Zoe was unable to complete the meet. We want to thank Zoe for her hard work and dedication in her first-time state competition! 105 Weight Class: Jentri Phipps - Due to complications during the squat event, Jentri was unable to complete the meet. We want to thank Jentri for her hard work and dedication in her first-time state competition! 114 Weight Class: Brooke McAlister - 1st place out of 13; Squat 415, Bench 235 (PR), Deadlift 285, Total 935 (PR). In her third consecutive trip to state, Brooke broke the state squat record for her weight class on her second attempt with a squat of 405 and then broke her own record on the third attempt with a squat of 415, shattering the previous record of 395. She also earned the State Outstanding Bench Press award and came in a close second by hundredths of a point for Outstanding Squat and Total! As a second-time State Champion, she is now a member of the THSWPA Hall of Fame as a 2x winner and is the first Aubrey Powerlifter to do so! 123 Weight Class: Emma Gillum - 1st place out of 15; Squat 365 (PR), Bench 165, Deadlift 340 (PR), Total 870 (PR). After finishing with a 4th place medal last year, Emma showed her competitive spirit in her third trip to the state meet and fought down to the last lift to win the State Championship for her weight class, making her the second girl in Aubrey history to win a state powerlifting title! 148 Weight Class: Emma Grisel - 12th place out of 20; Squat 360 (PR), Bench 215, Deadlift 270, Total 845 (PR). Emma managed to battle up to 5th place after the bench press but was edged down due to a couple of miscues on the deadlift. She showed great poise and determination as a new member of the Aubrey team in her first-time state competition! 165 Weight Class: Carmen Alexander - 12th place out of 21; Squat 315, Bench 195, Deadlift 325, Total 835. Carmen faced some difficulties throughout the meet but continued to fight hard in one of the most difficult weight classes to compete! We are proud of her for her no-quit attitude and for representing Aubrey in her first-time state competition! 198 Weight Class: Naomi Nkwodinma - 5th place out of 12; Squat 385, Bench 235, Deadlift 335, Total 955. Naomi managed to maintain her pre-state standing and held on for a 5th place medal to help the team with points! Despite some challenges throughout the meet, she showed great focus and resiliency for her second time in the state competition! 220 Weight Class: Lexis Jones - Squat 265, Bench 155; Due to complications during the deadlift event, Lexis was unable to complete the meet. We want to thank Lexis for her hard work and dedication in her first-time state competition! 242 Weight Class: Maggie Fawks, Senior - 7th place out of 13; Squat 350, Bench 250, Deadlift 265, Total 865. Maggie continued to show her fighting spirit throughout the meet in very tight competition where the difference between her finish and 5th place was a mere 20 lbs! We are proud of Maggie for representing the Aubrey program at the state level of competition all four years of her high school career! She will be missed, and we wish her well as she moves on to college! 242+ Weight Class: Haylee Moon - Squat 355; Due to complications during the bench press event, Haylee was unable to complete the meet. We want to thank Haylee for her hard work and dedication in her first-time state competition! Finally, we finished 4th place in the Team out of 58 schools represented at the State meet! First place was Robstown HS with 29 points; 2nd/3rd was a tie between Perryton HS and Bishop HS with 17 points each, and we were a close 4th place with 16 points. Just one more 5th place medal would have disrupted the team placements, putting us in second place! As always, we are proud of our girls’ hard work. We are especially proud of our Senior and her leadership of the team throughout this season. They will be dearly missed. We want to thank the following people for their invaluable support during the meet: Teresa McAlister, Dana McAlister, Riley Herron, Xavier McCoy, Nate Nkwodinma, Coach Broussard, and LaNise Heath. We want to thank everyone for supporting our team this season!
