RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF AUBREY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

RESOLUTION #1

IMPLEMENTING LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees (“Board”) of the Aubrey Independent School District (“District”) is authorized by Texas Education Code § 11.151 to govern and oversee the management of the public schools in the District; and

WHEREAS, the Board is authorized by Texas Education Code § 11.1511(b) to seek to establish working relationships with other public entities to make effective use of community resources and to serve the needs of public school students in the community; and

WHEREAS, the Board has developed legislative priorities for the benefit of the district, community, and employees in accordance with these powers.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE AUBREY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT:

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation increasing the state share of school funding for the operations and facilities of schools by investing funds in the present system; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation continuing to fund the initiatives in HB3 passed in the 86th Legislative Session; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports stronger compensation for educators that is not tied to incentive programs and eliminating the Teacher Incentive Allotment contained in HB 3 passed in the 86th Legislative Session; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation protecting the educator pension system as a "defined benefit" plan; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation increasing the state' s health insurance contribution to active educator health insurance plans; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation increasing the state's portion of contributions for the Teacher' s Retirement System and TRS Care; and

RESOLVED, the Board opposes legislation restricting public school districts' abilities to have paid representation to advocate on behalf of school districts and students with the Governor , Lt. Governor, and Legislature; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation expanding and maintaining local control; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation protecting educators right to payroll deduction for membership dues in professional assoc iati ons; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation placing a moratorium on additional charter schools; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation establishing accountability systems for schools with less reliance on standardized tests and more local accountability; and

RESOLVED, the Board opposes the use of tax money in any fonn for the funding of private school vouchers or tax scholarship programs; and

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation providing greater financial assistance for school districts to improve security and mental health supports and allow districts flexibility in how funds are spent to meet local needs of students, staff and communities.

RESOLVED, the Board supports legislation making the Individual Graduation Committees (IGC) for students permanent.
