Aubrey ISD hires existing leader to fill vacancy
Aubrey ISD Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor is pleased to announce the hiring of Aubrey ISD Police Department Sergeant Kayla Elizalde as the new chief of police, filling a vacancy due to the resignation of former police chief Kevin Clayton in October. Chief Elizalde brings over a decade of law enforcement experience to this role with a commitment to public safety and community collaboration.
“Chief Elizalde understands the unique challenges of a school environment where safety, trust and community-building are as important as enforcement,” Dr. Saylor said. “She has a great working relationship with our municipalities and I look forward to her growing our police force.”
Chief Elizalde began her career with the San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 after completing the Police Academy at Kilgore College in 2011. She held various positions, including deputy sheriff, dispatcher and jailer. She joined the Aubrey ISD Police Department as a police officer in July 2020 and was elevated to the role of sergeant in November 2023. In two instances, she has served as the interim police chief in Aubrey ISD.
In addition, Chief Elizalde holds numerous certifications, including Advanced Peace Officer and Advanced School-Based Law Enforcement Officer.
“I am incredibly honored to take on the role of police chief for the Aubrey ISD Police Department,” Chief Elizalde said. “My top priorities are the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and school communities.”
