We look forward to welcoming all of our Chaparrals back on Tuesday, Jan. 7! In Aubrey ISD, the safety of our staff and students is our top priority. Administrators are monitoring this week’s weather conditions closely. If the need for school closures or delays arises, we will utilize various communication tools to keep parents informed. These include the district website, social media platforms, KXAS TV NBC5, WFAA TV News8 and KDFW TV Fox 4. In addition, parents will receive notifications via email, phone, and text message through the student data system. Please monitor Aubrey ISD social media channels and District notifications for updates. See you in the morning and stay warm!

Aubrey ISD school board members, administrators, faculty and staff gathered at Aubrey Middle School for a “State of the District” meeting called by Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor. It actually was a surprise renaming of Aubrey Middle School! In Fall 2025, Aubrey ISD will open its second middle school named for Evalois Owens. Now, both schools have individuals they are named for. Congratulations to Aubrey ISD Deputy Superintendent Terrie McNabb. Led by principal Dr. Heather Vandiver, McNabb Middle School is here! Jan. 3 Chaparral Game Reports 🏀Lady Chap Basketball: Aubrey @ Van Alstyne A: 8 | 11 | 15 | 21 VA: 5 | 17 | 19 | 30 Scorers: Layla Johnson - 6 Lulu King - 5 Abby Lynch-Buxton - 4 Marquia Lucas - 2 Margaret Conley - 2 Addi Cagle - 2 The Lady Chaps resumed district play today in Van Alstyne. After jumping out to an early lead, we struggled to score in the second quarter, which put us in a tough spot. Behind a strong defensive effort, we clawed back to within one point midway through the fourth quarter but were unable to score when it mattered most. The Lady Chaps continue to improve and play with grit and effort. We will face Denton High School in a non-district game on Tuesday. 🏀Gentlemen Chap Basketball: We came out on top in a hard-fought district road game with a gritty 61-55 overtime victory. While we didn’t play as sharply as we would have liked, the guys showed resilience, coming back in the final minute to force overtime. In the extra period, we executed well on offense and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to secure the win. We have a bye on Tuesday, giving us a week to prepare for next Friday’s home game against Panther Creek. Aubrey Scorers: Tyler Brown - 5 Marquez Lucas Jr. - 7 Tyler Hightower - 19 Aidan McKeehen - 2 Jadin McMoore - 9 Jaedon Bogar - 19 District Record: 2-1 Overall Record: 16-7 ⚽️Gentelmen Chap Soccer: The Aubrey boys soccer team faced Kilgore in their first game of the season. Aubrey played a very defensive, counter-attacking style in the first half, holding preseason top-ranked Kilgore to a 1-0 lead. Kilgore’s goal came from a free kick, where Aubrey goalie Jack Goble made the initial save, but the ball’s momentum carried it across the line. In the second half, Aubrey opened up their attack and created a few close scoring opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net. Kilgore later capitalized on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box to score the final goal, ending the game 2-0. Aubrey held their own against a perennial state power in Kilgore, with an even run of play and both teams matching up well. Kilgore coach Peralez remarked that Aubrey was “tough to beat and scrappy.” Aubrey’s center back, Osvaldo Osorio, received a red card and will sit out the next game. The team’s next match is against Prosper Walnut Grove for their Senior Night on Tuesday at Children’s Health Stadium in Prosper. ⚽️Lady Chap Soccer: A report will be added here once received. https://www.facebook.com/share/19ofSnRr5X/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Aubrey vs. Wichita Falls Legacy High School A: 2 | 11 | 20 | 27 L: 15 | 20 | 34 | 48 Scorers: Addy Cagle - 12 Margaret Conley - 5 Lulu King - 2 Marquia Lucas - 2 Alexa Clayton - 2 Abby Lynch-Buxton - 2 After a 10-day break from games, the Lady Chaps traveled to Wichita Falls to face the Legacy High School Lady Leopards. Despite a slow start on both offense and defense, the Lady Chaps found a spark in the second and early third quarters before running out of momentum. While our play was sluggish at times, there were still positives to take away from the game. It served as a good warm-up to get back into rhythm before traveling to Van Alstyne on Friday to resume district play.

This year’s district holiday luncheon took on a new look but still served as a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season. Each campus celebrated uniquely, with meals and treats for their staff in festive styles. At the high school, breakfast was delivered door-to-door. Staff district and campus gifts were also handed out. To start the holiday festivities, retirees, Chaparral Legacy Cooperative members, and district administrators enjoyed a luncheon at Aubrey Middle School, highlighted by a variety of student performances. Coach Smith Reports: We had a fantastic district win on the road against a very strong Celina team, with a final score of 58-57. We started the game with great energy, jumping out to an early lead. Our defense was solid, and we controlled the ball well on offense, building an 8-point lead by halftime. We carried that momentum into the third quarter, but Celina, being a tough opponent, went on a run to take a 2-point lead heading into the fourth. The final quarter was a battle, going back and forth. With a minute to go, we were down by 3 points. A great drive along the baseline led to an assist to our post for a bucket, cutting the deficit to one. Then, an incredible defensive effort resulted in a steal, followed by a penetrating drive that ended with our post scoring the game-winning layup. It was an outstanding team effort and a strong win to carry us into the Christmas break. Check out the Tuesday night basketball game reports for both your Lady Chaps and Gentlemen Chaps below. Coach Black Reports: Aubrey vs. Sanger A: 3 | 10 | 20 | 27 S: 10 | 27 | 36 | 53 Leading Scorers: • Margaret Conley: 8 • Addi Cagle: 4 • Layla Johnson: 3 • London Butler: 3 • Abby Lynch-Buxton: 3 The Lady Chaps traveled to Sanger last night for a district matchup and fell 27-53 to a very tough Sanger team. Once again, the girls played with grit and heart for all four quarters. We saw some improvements in our offense, and our defensive effort was strong. While we’re still working on limiting turnovers, the girls are learning from their mistakes and moving in the right direction. We have one more game before the break at home vs. Celina on Friday at 12:30 p.m. ———————————- Coach Smith Reports: We fought hard but came up short in a tough district road game, losing to Sanger in overtime 70-63. The team came out with a lot of energy in the first quarter, jumping out to an early lead. However, Sanger fought back in the second quarter, going on a few runs and sending us into halftime down by 2. We came out strong again in the second half, going on a quick run, but the rest of the game was a back-and-forth battle. In the end, they made a couple more shots than we did. I am extremely proud of how hard our boys played. This is going to be a challenging district, and we have 11 more district games ahead. We’ll regroup and get ready for Celina on Friday. Aubrey Scorers: • Tyler Brown: 8 • Marquez Lucas Jr.: 12 • Tyler Hightower: 17 • Aidan McKeehen: 7 • Jadin McMoore: 7 • Jaedon Bogar: 12 District Record: 0-1
