Aubrey Boys Basketball Weekend Recap Dec. 13-14, 2024 Dec. 13: We lost to an extremely tough team from Australia in our second game of the day, 74-54. They had us outsized at every position with a starting lineup of a couple of 6’7” guys and a 6’6” shooting guard. Nevertheless, we came out with lots of energy and went into halftime tied 33-33. It hurt us when our 6’3” post got into foul trouble, causing us to be even smaller. I am extremely proud of how hard our kids fought the entire game. I believe that if we play with that intensity and desire, we will win a lot of district games. We struggled getting any kind of rhythm to our offense. I felt our defensive effort was good. We played hard, and I have to give some credit to TCA’s shooting ability as they shot the 3 ball well. I believe we will bounce back from this, learn from it, and be focused and ready for our first district game in Sanger on Tuesday. To accommodate Celina’s state championship game on Friday, Dec. 20, basketball schedules have been adjusted. JV games have been canceled, and the varsity girls will now play at 12:30 p.m., followed immediately by the varsity boys’ game.

Aubrey High School Alum and FFA Member Alexis Reese Blankenship Earns Prestigious American FFA Degree The Aubrey FFA Chapter is proud to announce that Alexis Reese Blankenship, a 2023 graduate of Aubrey High School, has been awarded the American FFA Degree, the highest honor bestowed by the National FFA Organization. This distinction, earned by less than 1% of FFA members each year, recognizes Alexis’s outstanding dedication to agricultural education, leadership, and career development. Alexis achieved this prestigious degree through her Placement Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) at Aubrey Florist, where she gained extensive hands-on experience in floral design, customer service, and small business operations. Her work at Aubrey Florist not only refined her technical skills but also highlighted her creativity and professionalism, making her an exemplary ambassador of FFA values. The American FFA Degree requires members to demonstrate significant achievements in their SAE, as well as community service and leadership activities. Alexis’s unwavering commitment to her SAE and the Aubrey FFA Chapter is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and passion for the agriculture industry. The Aubrey FFA Chapter is incredibly proud of Alexis for earning this distinguished honor and for serving as a role model to her peers. Aubrey Recap by Coach Smith Our Aubrey boys kicked off the Krum Tournament with a strong 74-61 victory over City View. A standout 2nd quarter saw us explode for 26 points while holding our opponents to just 12. It was a fantastic team effort, with contributions from both starters and players off the bench. Coach Black Reports: The Lady Chaps fell short in their first district game last night against Lake Dallas. After jumping out to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter, we struggled offensively, managing only 1 point in the second and third quarters. Despite our offensive challenges, I was very pleased with our defensive effort, holding a team averaging over 40 points per game to just 31. As always, I am incredibly proud of the effort and intensity our team displayed and continue to see growth with every game. Aubrey Recap by Coach Smith: We started the game with a lot of energy last night. A strong defense led to some fast-break scores, helping us jump out to a 21-10 lead. However, we didn’t close out the quarter as well as we should have, allowing them to get back into the game. That said, we made noticeable improvements on areas that hurt us in the tournament. It was a solid win against a good Ponder team on their home court. The final score was 60-48. We have one tournament left before starting district play next Tuesday night. The team rallied behind another strong defensive effort and showed significant improvement in ball control. Our shooting percentage continues to improve with each game, and we are wrapping up our non-district schedule with two solid team wins. The Lady Chaps will begin district play at home on tomorrow night against Lake Dallas.

Aubrey ISD’s fourth chief of police, Kayla Elizalde, promotion ceremony was held this evening, where she was pinned by her grandfather, Billy Williams, a former constable and the current Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3 in San Augustine County.

Coach Smith Reports: Aubrey boys fell 58-50 to Red River Academy Saturday. The team looked a bit fatigued and lacked the energy we’ve shown in previous games. However, I’m confident we’ll bounce back, learn from this experience, and be ready for the upcoming tournament this weekend and district play. Next up: at Ponder on Tuesday. Aubrey Boys Basketball Game Recap Sanger Tournament – Lebanon Trail HS – Dec. 5 Aubrey Recap: The Sanger Tournament started strong for the Aubrey boys basketball team. The energy was evident from the tip-off, resulting in a commanding 24-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. The team maintained their intensity throughout the game, securing an impressive 80-48 victory over Lebanon Trail. Balanced scoring was a highlight, with five players reaching double figures—an excellent display of team basketball. Next, the team faces a tough challenge against Grapevine Faith tomorrow morning (12/6/24). Grapevine Faith has already surpassed 90 points in a game this season, promising a competitive matchup. The City of Aubrey Tree Lighting Ceremony showcased performances by Brockett Elementary and Aubrey High School choirs.

Once again, a rough second quarter put us in a hole heading into halftime, making it difficult to recover. However, there were several positives to take away from the game. Our bench stepped up, contributing 13 points—more than in recent games—and our scoring was more evenly distributed, reflecting improvements in offensive execution. The Lady Chaps will return to action this weekend at the S&S Tournament.

It was a great defensive effort to pull out a 59-44 road win. We struggled shooting and looked a little sloppy at times, but these guys played with great determination and grit, and that effort allowed them to come away with the win. We have a tournament this weekend in Sanger, which will include 4 games played over 3 days.
